One top headline in the AI space to know:

🎙️ Meta Unveils Voicebox, the Future of AI Speech Generation

Ready for audio generation to be as easy as generating an image in Midjourney, or getting a text response in ChatGPT? Meta’s new Voicebox may make that a reality — but it’s so powerful that the public can’t be trusted with it… Yet.

Zuck and co. revealed their new speech generation AI last week, with some impressive features that could make some serious noise (pun intended) in the audio realm:

Described as "the most versatile AI for speech generation", Voicebox aims to revolutionize audio editing, sampling, and styling while enhancing accessibility for users.

The software can reportedly produce top-tier audio clips, edit pre-recorded content (think removing car horns or a barking dog in the background), all while maintaining the original audio's style and substance. Plus, Voicebox is already multilingual — with over 50,000 hours of unfiltered audio training in English, French, Spanish, German, Polish, and Portuguese.

Meta has outlined four major uses for Voicebox — with each ability carrying potential for greater accessibility:

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding Voicebox, Meta has no current plans to release it to the public yet — for fear of what bad actors could do with such a powerful tool (think deepfake audio clips).

This comes on the heels of a significant rise in voice scams — with robocallers and cybercriminals now leveraging AI tech to trick unsuspecting victims.

Despite the risks, Voicebox marks a major step forward in AI audio generation — and provides a glimpse into how insanely powerful these models will continue to grow in the future.
