One top headline in the AI space to know:

šŸ’Ŗ  ChatGPTā€™s Competition Growing Stronger

OpenAIā€™s ChatGPT has felt comfortably on top of the throne so far in the early days of the AI LLM race.

But over the last few weeks, the competition feels like itā€™s starting to seriously heat up.

This week, Chinese tech giant Baidu made claims that its LLM, Ernie 3.5, has reportedly outshone OpenAI's ChatGPT in a number of benchmarks ā€” and is surpassing GPT-4 in Chinese language-specific tests.

And Baidu isnā€™t alone ā€” with Chinese conglomerates like Alibaba and Tencent already working on their own LLM models as well. Just last month, Chinese developer IFlytek also claimed its model would surpass ChatGPT in capabilities by October.

These developments also come at a tenuous time ā€” with the U.S. reportedly considering restrictions on AI chip exports that would have serious implications for the broader global economy.

The competition is also growing stronger stateside ā€“ with Google's DeepMind reportedly hard at work on a new AI system, Gemini, that they also believe will soon eclipse ChatGPT.

Gemini plans to merge the strengths of the famous AlphaGo (known for its video game expertise) with the impressive language capabilities of models like GPT-4. And with Googleā€™s treasure trove of data across its web of applications, the search giant feels like the biggest impending threat to ChatGPTā€™s dominance.

Will OpenAI continue to hold its grip on top of the AI race? Or will competitors both overseas and in the U.S. be able to overtake the top spot in what feels like the biggest tech battle in history?
