One top headline in the AI space to know:
🚀 Anthropic's AI Leap with Claude 2
A new contender in the race for the AI throne has emerged.
AI startup Anthropic, co-founded by former OpenAI executives and fresh off $750M in funding, is ready to go head-to-head with Microsoft and Google with its latest AI chatbot, Claude 2.
The company released the new model to the public on Tuesday (with a reported waitlist of 350,000) after previously testing its previous iteration with businesses like Slack and Notion over the past few months.
Claude 2 has a massive 100K context window (GPT-4 has roughly 33K) — meaning it can ingest and interpret the equivalent of an entire novel in a single prompt (Great Gatsby was uploaded as a demo). And with the capability to upload documents, Claude can now sift through hundreds of pages of text in seconds to provide insights and information.
Longer memory aside, it’s also outperforming previous models in areas like legal examinations and Python coding tests. A good look at the areas Claude’s new model has significantly improved in, as well as how it stacks up to rival GPT-4, via @DrJimFan:
Claude-2, Anthropic's shot at GPT-4, has arrived. It's cheaper than GPT-4 and far stronger in reasoning & coding than its older self.
Things you should know:
▸ On standard exams, it's not quite at GPT-4 yet but catching up fast compared to v1.3. Winner in bracket:

And here’s another interesting thread of use cases that have already emerged with the new features:
After spending some time with Claude 2, I've uncovered some interesting use cases for myself that might be useful for others too:
1/ UX writing. I often use Claude to generate initial explorations of UX copy for things like tooltips, error messages, and in-product text.

Anthropic is emphasizing safety with Claude, which makes sense given their background — the company was originally started as an ‘AI Safety Lab’ in response to the feeling that OpenAI was becoming too commercial and less focused on social responsibility.
Yet even those working on Claude are scared of what they are creating — with many expressing deep fears for the future in this interview with the New York Times.
Is this new model another breakthrough in changing the world with artificial intelligence? Or another dangerous step towards a frightening future?
Try out Claude’s new model here.

Three of our favorite tweets, threads, AI generations and more:
This list is from 2021… And pretty much all of the “nowhere near solved” issues (outside of human-level general intelligence) are now pretty widely available. Insane pace of growth:
